Boeing scores rare sales win over Airbus, despite ongoing safety issues
Boeing had a better month than Airbus in July in terms of new plane orders, but it still lags behind its rival for the year due to ongoing safety concerns. Boeing received 72 gross orders for new planes in July, with most of them being for the troubled 737 Max jet. The orders were largely from aircraft leasing companies and were tied to the Farnborough Air Show. However, Boeing’s performance in July pales in comparison to last year. The company has faced scrutiny over safety and quality after an incident in January. So far this year, Boeing has only received 228 gross orders and 186 net orders, while Airbus has reported 386 gross orders and 367 net orders. Deliveries are also down for Boeing this year, with only 218 commercial jets delivered compared to Airbus’ 400. Boeing’s financial losses since 2019 total $33 billion.
