Boeing reported that it sold 14 new jets last month, primarily in freighter sales. Three of the jets sold were 737 Max models, with two going to an unidentified customer and one to Alaska Airlines as a replacement for a plane that experienced a door plug malfunction mid-flight. The remaining 11 jets sold were 777 freighters. Although June marked one of the best sales months this year, overall gross sales for the first half of 2024 were down 70% compared to the previous year. Boeing’s sales have been impacted by the Alaska Air incident, with airlines delaying purchases as Boeing resolves various issues. The company previously pleaded guilty to employee fraud during the 737 Max certification process and may face additional criminal charges related to the Alaska Air incident. As for the repurchased plane, Boeing has not disclosed its plans.
