As with many Target trips, a US history teacher left the store with an unexpected purchase. She bought a magnetic activity book about iconic Civil Rights leaders for Black History Month. However, Target is now removing the item from shelves after a viral TikTok video exposed inaccuracies in the book. The video pointed out misidentifications of names and pictures of the leaders. Target has stated that the product will no longer be sold and that the publisher has been notified of the errors. Misidentifying Black people and people of color perpetuates racist stereotypes. Instances of such errors have occurred in the past, highlighting the need for greater attention to detail.
