Power demand from data centers is projected to triple by 2030 due to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI). Mizuho Securities forecasts a demand of 400 terawatt hours or 50 gigawatts per year by 2030, accounting for approximately 9% of total electricity demand in the US. The report also highlights the regions with the highest data center demand, including the Mid-Atlantic and Texas. The increasing demand for AI is expected to drive the expansion of renewable energy, particularly solar and wind, as well as natural gas.
