Trump Challenge Prompts Stay of Order on Lawyer's Testimony

WASHINGTON--

Donald Trump

This lawsuit challenges a recent court ruling that allowed federal investigators to obtain potentially critical grand jury testimony from one former president's lawyer as part of the special counsel inquiry on the handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

A three-judge Washington appeals court panel put an immediate halt to Tuesday's proceedings at Mr. Trump’s request.

A sealed ruling which was rejected

Evan Corcoran (the former president's lawyer) raised attorney-client privilege issues during a January grand jury appearance. The U.S. Court of Appeals panel for Washington D.C. Circuit set extremely tight deadlines for additional information or arguments. It ordered Mr. Trump's attorneys to file a briefing before midnight, and Jack Smith's special counsel team to respond by 6 AM Wednesday.
