San Francisco Ballet has announced a $60 million contribution from an anonymous donor, marking the largest donation in the company’s history and one of the biggest ever to an American dance company. A majority of the gift, $50 million, will be used to strengthen the company’s endowment and support the creation and acquisition of new works. The remaining $10 million will help cover operating costs in the upcoming seasons. San Francisco Ballet hopes that this gift will help them recover from the financial strains of the pandemic and continue to create modern classics.
